βͺ Rewind W26

βͺ Week in rewind

πŸ”₯ Just like in most of Europe, the weather was too hot for what we're used to. I'm not a fan of hot weather, but until 30Β°C I feel it's ok. Anything above is too much. And that's what we got. We tried cooling down the house, but once temperatures no longer dropped during the night, it became harder for all of us. Luckily we invested in a small swimming pool for the boys a few years ago that brought some refreshment from time to time.

You hear people say this will be the new normal, but it shouldn't be. And it can't be, as we're not accommodated to it. Empty freezers in the supermarket to save energy, hospital rooms at 33Β°C, events cancelled,...

🚲 The hot weather was an incentive to go to work more often and enjoy the airco. And I used my bike for commuting, at least at the beginning of the week. On Friday, at 37°C I opted for a cool car.

During one of the commutes I had a scary experience, seeing biker fall down and not moving afterwards. I wrote about it in πŸš΄β€β™€ Wear a helmet!.

πŸƒ I tried to be consistent with my running, but it wasn't easy, with the weather and available time. As part of heat training I ran my recovery runs when I had time and it was hot, however, I had to plan my intervals and long run to keep them manageable.

I ended up with 4 runs in total. Not as many as I would have liked, but still keeping some level of volume in my legs.

πŸ“± I'm extremely late to the party but I bought a Xteink reader. Everyone who got one recommends it, and as I want to read more (not on my phone) I took advantage of the temporary price reduction.

🏫 The boys had their end of school party, a day to play together and perform a small dance per class. It's always nice to see them perform and follow the choreography as best as they can 😁 The weather was too hot so luckily the timetable shifted to all morning activities. Everyone went home in the afternoon, searching for a spot to cool down.

✈️ The long school holiday is approaching and we'll be away on vacation soon. We all need it. The last couple of weeks have become a lot harder at home. The boys have been very cranky, a combination of school exhaustion and the heat I guess, so almost every day we had a crisis. I hope our time off will help us all recharge, and I hope the forecasted second batch of heat will not spoil the fun.

πŸ”Ž I've been having a go at other search engines, and while I initially was planning to go for Kagi, it's also one that's drawn some criticism. David wrote about it in Tech Morality is Hard. So I've not decided yet which one I'll go for.

In the mean time, I'm also experimenting with Uruky.

🧠 Last Friday, I and friends participated in a quiz of the local school with 40 other teams. We enjoy these quizzes as they are not too hard so you have the idea of having a chance at winning. And we came close. We finished second!
